The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline 1-800-4-A-CHILD is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse. Serving the United States, its territories, and Canada, the hotline is staffed 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week with professional crisis counselors who, through interpreters, can provide assistance in 140 languages. The hotline offers crisis intervention, information, literature, and referrals to thousands of emergency, social service, and support resources. All calls are anonymous and confidential.

The toll of childhood trauma on society is incalculable. These organizations in Minnesota and nationwide are working to improve the lives of children and at-risk youth. Kids At Risk Action (KARA) supports and thanks them for  their efforts to advocate on behalf of children, youth and families.

Minnesota Organizations

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Minnesota volunteers support the best interests of abused and neglected children, ensuring that every at-risk child in Juvenile Court proceedings has an advocate working for their best interests. CASA Minnesota is a member of the National Court Appointed Special Advocates Association (National CASA).

Catholic Charities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis wide-reaching programs serve children, youth and families, including aiding homeless teens, providing adoption services, and advocating for social justice in Minnesota.

Free Arts Minnesota is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the healing powers of artistic expression into the lives of abused, neglected and at-risk children and their families.

Grandkids and Me Foundation helps build strong families through camps that build intergenerational relationships.

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota extensive programs support children and families in Minnesota via adoption services, crisis nurseries, shelters for at-risk youth, parenting classes, and many other youth-related services.

Minnesota Literacy Council (MLC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving literacy in the state of Minnesota. They offer literacy services for adults, at-risk children, native-English speakers and recent immigrants.

Our Voices Matter (OVM) is is a youth-driven program that works with teens and young adults, ages 14-21, whose lives have been affected by foster care and adoption. They provide a platform for OVM youth to tell their stories, build leadership skills, and directly impact policy and legislation.

Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota (PCAMN) offers a hotline at 1-800-CHILDREN for those who are in immediate need of child abuse information and assistance.

National Organizations

Bikers Against Child Abuse works to create a safer environment for abused children. They work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for Children is the only volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as officers of the court. In an overburdened social welfare system, abused and neglected children often slip through the cracks among hundreds of current cases. CASA volunteers change that. Appointed by judges, CASA volunteers typically handle just one case at a time-and commit to staying on that case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. While others may come and go, CASA volunteers provide that one constant that children need in order to thrive.

Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) is the oldest and largest membership-based child welfare organization in the United States. Their primary objective is to engage all Americans in promoting the well-being of children and young people and protecting them from harm.

Children International is a nonprofit, humanitarian organization dedicated to easing the burdens of poverty on children. Their child sponsorship solution provides health, educational, material and emotional aid to impoverished children around the world.

Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) is a non-profit child advocacy organization that champions policies and programs that lift children out of poverty; protect them from abuse and neglect; and ensure their access to health care, quality education, and a moral and spiritual foundation.

Friends of the Children provides a professional, salaried mentor for youth from troubled homes, starting in kindergarten or first grade. The mentor commites to the child for 12 years via this nonprofit organization.
