His songs pull at your heart, provoke critical conversations, and make no apology for a biting critique of current events. Two sets, with an intermission, will address climate justice, anti-racism, war, worker & immigrant rights, feminism, and revolution. Ben grew up in Minneapolis where as a teenager he became involved in movements for peace, ecology, and social justice. He performs a wide range of politically inspired music—much of it original. Today he leads songs at picket lines, rallies, marches, conferences, and concerts to inspire and agitate for justice and peace. Nonviolence: Christianity’s Greatest Failure and Its Best Hope – People of Faith Peacemakers. African Development Center, 1931 South 5th Street, Mpls  55454 (corner of Riverside and 20th Avenues). Military veteran Al Bostelmann will review military training and the religious support that legitimizes those activities, contrasting that with the Orthodoxy of Jesus’s nonviolent equal love of friends and enemies as practiced by Christianity during its first 300 years. Then we’ll cover how Constantine’s and Theodosius’s actions to make Christianity the official religion of the Empire resulted in the Church embracing “justified violence” – introducing a complete reversal, for the next 1,700 years, of Jesus’s way of dealing with evil – and looking at the consequences. Lastly we’ll make the case that a return to Jesus’s nonviolent love of friends and enemies still represents a force more powerful for bringing about peace. Do you know that science verifies that over 1,400 biochemical changes are set in motion by emotional signals from the heart to the brain? And, each time the heart beats, a magnetic signal is sent out from the body that interacts with others around us? The HeartMath model is a research-based and best-practice model of reducing stress, promoting wellness, and increasing productivity. The HeartMath model is used by over 5 million people, with 5000 certified practitioners, around the globe.
